Episode 100 - Celebrating 100 podcasts

Esther

Good morning. And welcome to the Monday Morning Marketing Podcast.

Esther

I'm Esther

Melanie

and I'm Melanie.

Esther

And today we're celebrating.

Melanie

Yes. Again, we are celebrating.

Esther

So we've had some technical issues, and this is like the third time that we're trying to celebrate our 100 episode, but I think someone out there just doesn't want us to do it.

Melanie

We've had so much fun doing this podcast. And we're here celebrating and having the most technical difficulties we've ever had.

Esther

In the last 100 episodes. We have never had these issues at all. This is just if it weren't so funny, it would be sad.

Melanie

So what was your highlight for you? Do you reckon, Esther over the last 100 episodes?

Esther

Okay. So over the last 100 episodes, we have had almost 50 guests, all of whom have brought something epic to the table. There are learning Nuggets in each and every one of those episodes, also in our episodes where there's just the two of us. But when you bring in a guest and they are experts in their field, then we're going to learn something better, aren't we?

Melanie

Yeah. And as much as we enjoy doing this podcast for you guys, we actually do enjoy it ourselves. And we learned tonnes from these guys before, during and after the podcast. But I suppose my favourite point has been the time management and the challenge. I never thought I'd be able to do a podcast and have the time for it and understand it and learn a whole new set of skills since starting this podcast.

Esther

Yeah. Because now you can edit them. You know what type of microphone to buy?

Melanie

I got it right. In the end.

Esther

We're still learning. We're still constantly adapting as well. I mean, we're on episode 100, and we've used a couple of different platforms to record on. We've used different places to publish it on and broadcast it out from. And we'll be changing some of those as well as the time goes on. It's just like Melanie says, a constant learning and just adapting to what there is out there because podcasting is relatively new in terms of marketing. It's been around a few years, but it's still at that learning and adapting stage itself. So there's a lot of things that we don't know yet, and we're happy to learn from some experts that we've also had on the show.

Melanie

Yeah, one of those experts who really put us in order, and somebody who, frankly, couldn't have come at a better time really for us, Ian Anderson Grey. He really helped us get into a proper order, a proper planning strategy. We've had lots and lots of topics to discuss for months now, but we're still having people approach us with new topics and that sort of thing. But yeah, it's been such a ride. And then, of course, you dropped a Senate earlier on this year and we ended up doing an event.

Esther

Yay. The event was brilliant. The event was brilliant. It went epically. We had excellent speakers. We had so many takeaways from that.

Melanie

We had headed speakers. We had people who headlined Social Media Marketing World, and they were at our event. Social Media Marketing World mentioned our event as a recommended event to attend.

Esther

Yes.

Melanie

Mindblown, yes.

Esther

Not to mention the fact that we had a little help from our FOMO creator friend May King Tsang, and she alone just got the word out there to even more people than we could even reach. And the turnout was brilliant.

Melanie

She doubled the turnout in the time she came onto the event. She doubled the turnout.

Esther

And it was a short time that we asked her to get us results in, and she delivered way above what we could have asked for.

Melanie

We had a really great, well attended event. We're still actually selling Replays today, which is great, but it's all about offering value, and the feedback we've had over the last nearly two years has been bite sized chunks of information ways that we can consume it in a short amount of time, sending us to the right places, to the right people that can actually offer them guidance and assistance. And that's what we were aiming for. That's exactly what we were aiming for. And as much as we bring on these guests, and obviously they're selling their wares, we're still learning from them, and we're taking everything that they're telling us and passing it on to our clients.

Esther

Yeah. Melanie and I have over 15 years experience in marketing between us, and we're still learning because marketing is ever changing, ever adapting and what you know, today might not be relevant for tomorrow. Sorry, guys, that's not. And you just always having to up your game. And that's one of the great things about having this podcast and getting on amazing speakers is that we have an excuse to just reach out to them and go, hey, would you like to be on our podcast? And at the end of the day, we're learning from them and we're getting Golden Nuggets for our audience.

Melanie

And it was interesting. The topics that we've been covering over the last year and a bit we didn't realise just how relevant this would be to some of our listeners. Some of them have literally spiralled out of control, and maybe it was just the timing. Maybe it was the speaker, and two or three of ours have gone quite viral as well, which is nice, not just our guest.

Esther

Yeah. No. But one of the guests that really stands out in the number of listens has to be Louise Brogan. Linkedin is a hot topic right now. So if you're struggling with your LinkedIn, go back and listen to that episode. But we also have so many different, wide variety of speakers that have come on and what we also do because we don't take a sort of sequence to part one. Part two, part three. It's just you can jump into our podcasts at episode 30 and then go to episode 60 and go back to 25. I don't recommend the first five, but we were a bit nervous then

Melanie

We were.

Esther

but no, you can totally said bite size chunks 10, 15, 20 minutes with guests. Well, apart from Robin Kennedy, but they totally make up for it with the amount of content that they give us and the amount of information that they can share in a short period of time.

Melanie

So when we created this podcast, I don't think we actually fully appreciated just how wide our net would end up being. And since we started, we've grown an audience quite a significant audience, fairly split in three, if you like, in Ireland, in the UK and in the US, how did we manage that?

Esther

Oh, they love the accent. I'm sure that's what it is now, if you're one of our listeners in the US, we'd love you to get in contact and let us know why you're listening to us. We love you just want to know why. But yeah, we have basically started two years. Let's be honest, because we had to do a bit of background work before we actually launched the podcast.

Melanie

We have to do a podcast first.

Esther

Well, we had to decide on the name, which took us what, ten minutes

Melanie

It was very long ago to be honest.

Esther

It was like, when do we want it to go out? And what do we want to talk about? Oh, there we go. That's our title. It does exactly what it says in the tin, but it was just from that taking everything, getting the website, getting the social media handles, getting it all in order and sorted and a logo and branding, colours and design. Everything just sort of fell into place. And it's been because we've known each other for what, five, six years now, Melanie?

Melanie

Easily.

Esther

Yeah. So it was easy to fall into collaboration with someone you've known for a long time.

Melanie

And frankly, because we haven't really taken this very seriously immediately. But I'd say the last year we've seen the opportunities that this could offer us, and we've had such good feedback. We've had great comments. We've had people suggest topics, and we've had people approach us with topics as well. And it now becomes sort of a living, breathing being, hasn't it? All by itself, it becomes small little monster. So it's been so much fun speaking to all these amazing people and getting these opportunities to learn. And that's what it's all about, isn't it?

Esther

It is.

Esther

And don't forget, we also had a sponsor.

Melanie

We did. Yeah, we had Agorapulse sponsor us for three months, enough to wear my Agora pulse jumpers.

Esther

They're very comfy.

Melanie

They are extremely comfy.

Esther

We do recommend Agorapulse, even though they're not sponsoring us at the moment.

Melanie

We are brand ambassadors, though.

Esther

We are.

Melanie

And quite rightly. So because they're a great platform.

Esther

They are. And I mean, it's just been such a good time to get into podcasting. It has helped us. I think it sort of helped me like I don't go on video. I don't like looking at myself. I don't even like the sound of my own voice, but this has been a stepping stone, I have to say, because I have done a couple of lives this year. You have to be honest and admit I did.

Melanie

Yes, you did.

Esther

I did that end of the year. But still 2021 Esther went live. If you don't know what to do, then just start something. Okay, so we're calling this episode decision makers and action takers, because that is what we are here at the Monday morning marketing podcast. We say what we're going to do, and then we do it. And then that's what we want you guys to be as well. And that was the theme for our event earlier this year was be a decision maker, take action and just get it done because

Melanie

the time is now, guys, we have no idea what the future will bring. But the more we embrace what we can do today. The more we can do tomorrow

Melanie

Amen to that. And on that note, that's it for today, guys. And we'll be back next week with more Monday morning. Marketing bye.
