Good morning, and welcome to the Monday Morning Marketing Podcast. I'm Esther.
And I'm Melanie.
And today we're back with another version of our social media predictions, this time for 2022.
Yay, party on, dudes.
Where has the year gone? Where has the year gone? I mean, we did these predictions last year as well, and to be fair, I don't know if any of them came true, but I'm pretty sure they would.
It probably would have been worthwhile us to actually go back and listening to those.
Well, if anybody wants to go back and listen to this and let us know if we got any right, it should be episode 55. Ok, so 2022 is literally just around the corner. Or if you're listening to us in 2022, happy New Year. What do we think is coming up this year?
Well, because of the Metaverse, I think AI will be embraced by more other platforms. Facebook, unusually, are leading the way in this particular instance. But I think AI will be more interactive. There'll be more. Previously, AI would have been like chat bots or something as random as that. But now it's beyond that. And I think we're going to see probably towards the end of the year, more platforms are updating their AI in this respect.
Yeah. So we would have virtual reality, augmented reality, all those good things. These are things that we worked a bit on with IPA Group years ago. Years and years ago, we did a lot of AI VR, but it never really took off in the rest of the world. It was bigger in America. So I think it might still take a while to really kick off here in the UK and Ireland. But, yeah, I do see how 2022 would be a real big portal for getting through to that other side. But the meta version that you mentioned, it's huge. It's going to be huge, isn't it?
Yes, it will be. And I think because of this very reason, I think headsets will be gifts and prizes as well. That will be like a leak magnet if you like to entice people to buy from a business or from a brand because of this adjustment in marketing.
Yeah. And it will be a real shock to the system for some who are only just figuring out video to not have to go, oh, but I have to make it immersive, and I have to make it so that other people can interact with this video while it's going on. So, yeah, it will be a lot to take in. Like I said, it won't happen overnight because you just need to have the infrastructure in place to be able to do it. But definitely do look it up, check it out and see how it can fit into your business, because it's going to have to fit somewhere. I would say audio chats are here to stay.
Agreed.
So we had started 2021, we had clubhouse really take off, then Twitter opened their spaces, Facebook opened their audio groups and video chats as well. I just think it's something that during the whole pandemic it had to come to fruition. It had to happen because everybody was zoomed out or didn't want to appear on video because of lack of makeup being the main cause. But a lot of people have taken to one or other of those platforms to share their voice, and now most of them can be converted into podcasts and repurposed and used in other places. So it's definitely they're keeping up and they're allowing you to do more with your audios. And it's not just, well, you missed it, so you can't really listen to it again anymore.
I think the phrase creator is also going to become more common as a role because we got creator pages on LinkedIn and now Facebook have just adopted creator updates on Facebook. So you can get monetization on more platforms than ever as a creator. And previously being a social media manager or there was all sorts of weird and wonderful names explaining what your roles were. But the word creator is going to creep into more job roles and people are going to be claiming they are or looking for creators. So I think you're going to have to start adjusting your language in 2022 to reach a wider audience by adopting this particular phrase.
Yeah. And you mentioned another phrase in there as well, monetization. And we saw at the end of 2021 where Twitter has allowed super tweets and tweets that you can tip your tweeters, tip the people that you follow on Twitter, you can pay for their content and be part of an elite group and get
tick Tock does it as well, don't they? They have monetization as well, yeah.
And obviously YouTube has always had monetization. Like if so many millions of people watch your videos, then you get a couple of dollars. But it's never really been as Twitter in a way has changed it slightly in that it's down to the user to pay for the content. If they feel it's a value, then they will pay for the content. Whereas with YouTube it was YouTube itself paying the people for their videos because they got to a certain number of people and viewers. So, yeah, monetization will be bigger in 2022.
I also think, and I'm sure you'll be glad to hear this, there'll be more drive for ecommerce websites and more websites that will be more allencompassing so that people aren't having to go to different platforms to do different stuff. And the likes of Disciple, who do community management and help push courses and include groups and that sort of stuff. I honestly think the likes of Disciple Media are actually going to be adopted by even smaller businesses now or sole traders. And I don't think it's just going to be a brand thing anymore because it keeps your audience in the one place.
Well, that's a good segue for next week's podcast, because Disciple Media are joining us next week on the podcast. So that's a good promo for them for next week. What else have you got?
Well, I think and we did this last year for life. Can't remember the word I used for last year, but I think the catch word for 2022, certainly the beginning of the year, it's going to be sustainability or maybe climate change or something along those lines. I think sustainability would be kept here, to be honest, because otherwise you're saying the word climate change kind of makes you feel you're going to preach at people. So why do I think that? Well, Cop 26, for a start, Cop 26 was just something else. And the findings that came out of that and the people who attended and didn't and people who stayed and didn't, we learned so much from that. And more and more people globally are being impacted. We're seeing stories almost weekly now of the impact and change that's happening. And there's more and more of us now that need to do something about it.
Yeah.
And I'm not going to hop on the bandwagon and say this is what we're going to be preaching about for the rest of the year or anything like that, but we can't rely on our leaders to do it for us now.
Oh, definitely not. Definitely not. But I mean, it is something that every single company, every business, every sole trader, every individual has to do. I got a phone call a couple of weeks ago to ask what we were doing in IPA group to stem carbon footprint. And obviously we're sat online all day. So we're using electricity and energy and we think, oh, just because we're not printing off stuff, then we're good. But no, there's a lot more to it and there's a lot of things that we can do. But I think and especially people who are now looking for who to do business with, we'll be looking at your sustainability program.
Agreed. It needs to be blatant on your website.
Yes. It's almost like your cookie policy now. It almost needs to be this is what we're doing to be socially responsible for the sustainability. So, yeah, I totally agree with all of those.
