Good morning and welcome to the Monday morning marketing podcast, I'm Esther and
I'm Melanie
Happy New Year.
Said another episode from the Ladies at Monday morning marketing podcast of Too Much Turkey for me over the holidays. But first, a word from our sponsors.
Yes, we know how hard it is to juggle all the things in your business accounts, meetings and the never ending inbox. And that's why we teamed up with Agorapulse over the last three months to give you more than five hours back a week. When it comes back to managing your social media marketing no complicated Excel long emails or millions of open tabs, which you probably all have right now, simply manage all your social media channels in one place. Go to Agorapulse forward, slash Monday morning marketing to get one month free. Now all you have to do is figure out how you want to spend those spare five hours.
And it could be with our next topic, which is what are our predictions for twenty twenty one. Disclaimer these are just Melanie and I's thoughts and not based on anything that we've actually read or researched. It's just we've been in the business a long time. We have seen things come and go and we are just going to throw these out there as what we think will come the end of twenty, twenty one. We are right. You owe all us a drink, OK, all of that. OK, so these are just our predictions. They are not based on anything that we might scientifically think will come true. So, Melanie, what do you think. Twenty, twenty one.
I think we are going to probably spend a hell of a lot more time doing lives.
NO...
I do. I think we're going to have to. There's a lot more eyeballs on us these days. More and more businesses from products and services have now gone onto going online because it's the only way you can actually consume information and, you know, even stay in contact with suppliers, let alone finding new customers. And I think, you know, going online and going live is is pretty much hand in hand the twenty, twenty one.
I really don't like going live.
I know.
OK, so talk to me, the probably half of our audience who do not like going live and tell us what we have to do.
Well, you can go live on pretty much every platform these days from YouTube, Google. So Twitter, well that's going to change fairly soon. We were previously going live on Periscope, but that is moving over to Twitter completely by the first of April. And then you've got Facebook lives. Of course, you've got third party apps, Be live as well that you can go you can actually share ICAM. You've got all sorts of areas where you can go live through either third parties or natively. But what I would strongly recommend you do, it doesn't really matter which platform you're going to actually go live. You can practise going live on your personal Facebook profile first, and you can make the audience to yourself only or just to a couple of friends, or you can even set yourself up in a small group and practise in there just to build up confidence and work out, you know, positioning lights.
Yeah, but basically twenty, twenty one is all about video and live,
I think so
showing your face, that pretty face coming in from behind the mic
and filters, lots of filters going.
Yeah. Because like you said, there's more and more people online of all ages and stages in life. And it's not just your your millennials, your tech savvy teens. I mean, that's where tech talk really took off this year was with the you know, I saw a lot more people of different generations joining tech talk and making tik tok. And, you know, there's a lot of talk, especially with tik tok now being banned at the present in the United States of the platform sort of disappearing or other platforms coming in to replace it. And that's also, you know, there are always platforms that come and go. I mean, Melanie and I years ago, we're on a platform called Blob.
Yeah.
And it was fabulous, but it disappeared. So just be aware, guys, that wherever you are in social media, it may disappear. Now, we're not saying the Facebook or Twitter is going to disappear overnight, but stranger things have happened and they have gone down a lot this last couple of months. They have been, you know. Going offline and having glitches and everything, you know,
I do think Facebook and this struggle this year, especially because of Brexit and a few other things have happened. Obviously we're in the post Brexit now finding four years. And, you know, doesn't matter whether you replicate it or not. I'm not going to say which way I lean, but I'm just glad it's all over.
I know.
But, you know, at the end of the day, it's had an impact on Facebook ads. And I'm not sure how many of you actually are aware of this, but this is going to have a massive impact on iOS. And so if you're using if it's doing display ads or you're doing ads through to iOS or to Android, you're going to notice it's going to reflect really largely on your advertising campaign to reach your impressions and your budget.
Yeah, because there's also the GDPR rules that they're modifying or that they're finally taking into consideration after how many years, Melanie? On your birthday
It could be, at least four as well.
Yes.
So crappy four years ago. That's almost as bad as last year.
Oh, no no. Let's just leave those all in the past, OK? So yes, there will be talk of COVID this year. Yes, there will still be restrictions and we're in the middle of one right now in Northern Ireland, but. We have to look to the future and look to see how we can keep our businesses going. And one of the things like I'm saying, their social media comes and goes. It has its glitches. So get a website. Websites will be 100 percent key and twenty, twenty one as well. And if you have some of those videos that you recorded and you can put them on your website, all the better.
I have to agree with you there, keeping and maintaining a website and where possible, making it something you can maintain yourself even better purely because it is your front door is a window to your business. And as so many people are now online more than ever before, they need to find you to be able to search for you. And so you need an update, the website of some description. And we all know somebody who can make a website
Do we? Oh, yeah, that's me. Yeah. And another thing like if people are coming onto your website and they can't see your face or they can't identify who you are, you will not get very much. You won't get very far. People like to see who you are. And especially after this past year where people have been going off to zoom and doing their video conferences more and more and more, then they also don't mind that your kids are there, too. I mean, it has completely changed that way. But so more predictions from the Monday morning marketing podcast, not from anybody else. About twenty, twenty one.
I think we're going to have. Extensive listeners, I think we're going to triple our listeners definitely, definitely, because all our original listeners, they're going to all our listeners that we have right now that you're listening to this, you are going to share it. This is a subliminal message. Yes. You're going to share it with your friends and your neighbours and your cousins and your sisters and everybody else. And I'm only talking about sisters because a lot of our audience are female and that's just who we attract. So we're not excluding the men. You can share it with your brothers as well. But, yeah, definitely share a site. Let us get into other people's ears as well. And we would love to have more and more and more of your feedback to share as well.
And we also predict I mean, we've always had, I will be honest with you, a very high level, good quality speakers and guests on here. But we are hitting some serious high notes over the next few months. And it was as much because they wanted to come on as much as we invited others. It is such a such a privilege. You know,
It really is
so, you know, do keep on listening. Make sure you subscribe and listen to a podcast, because we've got some serious candidates coming up over the next few weeks especially. We don't plan as far ahead as some people know, paying up to 10 weeks in advance, you know, and we're not organised.
Well? Well, no, no, we're not. But speaking of up to maybe 10 weeks in advance, we are predicting about the Monday morning marketing podcast will have a conference and online conference as well. No date has been set. I'm putting it out there. I am putting it out there and I have to do it. So
hopefully, well we're looking for speakers and OK, we talked about this not on air and I've just doing that. OK, so yes, in I'd say 10 to 12 weeks time, we will be doing a conference, getting all the minds together that will help you make your marketing a success for twenty, twenty one. So do you keep coming back. We may surprise you.
We may... Not we may. We will. We will surprise you. That's it for today guys. Again, these are not Sponsored. They're not predictions that anybody has given us. They're just trends that we've seen in the market. And like I said, some of them, I hope, do come true. Others, I really hope that they would change back to what they were. But that's it for today. Thank you for joining us in twenty one. And we'll see you next week.
Bye for now
